Thanks for visiting Marine Pro Australia!

Peter Thompson has started this business by way of continuing his life-long interest in boats.

Peter started working in the marine industry in the late 80s, being fortunate enough to work with a local Gold Coast business that built a very unique style of hull at that time, Hydrofield International.

Due to the small work force at the time, alI employees acquired a very diverse skill set to get the job done.  Pete worked on many aspects of boat building from spraying gel coats, laying up moulds with a chopper gun, even running his own laminating crew.  The crews worked on boats built to commercial survey and even built boats for The Australian Navy.

Eventually, Pete moved into a marine workshop where he learned a further variety of skills, from inboard petrol and diesel engine overhaul, new engine install and general workshop duties and marina hardstand work.

Pete’s continued interest in boats has led him to acquire his Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) Commercial skipper endorsement and is an active member of Marine Rescue Queensland.

As a qualified trainer and assessor, Pete conducts some of the engineering courses of a nationally accredited training package for VMRAQ.  He also works with Brisbane based marine focused RTOs conducting training and assessing competencies for commercial skippers.

Outside of work, Pete loves being out in his jet boat and has been a member of the Australian Jet Boat Association for many years.  He has a great interest in vintage and classic speed boats, and enjoys things that are a little out of the ordinary.

These days, Pete is proud of the diverse work he can offer through MPA.
